| Installing or upgrading a Mobile Computing
and Automated Data Collection System in your enterprise can drive down
costs significantly, while dramatically improving your quality and
customer service levels.
There are several fundamental approaches
to implementing Mobile Computing and Data Collection: Batch,
RF/Wireless, or WAP
(Wireless Area Protocol). Which of these approaches you choose
to take for your organization depends upon your applications, your
requirements for Real-time data, and cost vs. value (ROI) requirements.
Example Scenarios:
> If your need for truly real time data is very high, and your mobile
workers are in a LAN Local Area Network setting (ie. in a building or
plant), then you would want to pursue a RF/Wireless
solution.
> If your need for real time data from
mobile workers is low, you are in a LAN environment, then you might
consider a Batch solution or RF/Wireless
solution.
> If your workers are out in the field
with high repetition or routing and the need for Real-time data is high,
then you would consider an RF/Wireless
Solution over a WAN (Wide Area Network).
> If your workers are out in the
field, you need to have them connected to your enterprise data base, but
the data collection requirements are not intensive, then you may want to
consider WAP or Wireless Area Protocol using
Cellular Phone technology.
